Fibre metal laminates can be manufactured in a similar way as composites. As the different fibre reinforced adhesive layers have to be bonded to the metal layers, this can be achieved by a press, an autoclave, or by a continuous rolling process.
The choice of the metal and de adhesive and fibres may have a large influence on the possible manufacturing processes.
FML can be made as a semi-product like flat laminates, but can also be manufactured to a final product when directly, or in more serial production steps, the laminate is brought to its end form.
After curing of the FML, different standard metal manufacturing techniques can be applied on the laminate, like drilling, milling, brakeforming (within certain boundaries), etc.
